Elon Musk’s boastfulness reminded me of a bad day I had several years ago. As I sat with a colleague waiting to board a flight at DFW Airport, I bragged, “look at my impulse buy.” I had just bought it, adding debt to my credit card, and feeling sick during the transaction because I knew I had no business buying it. I had no disposable income. It was the newly released, most pimped out iPhone. Ten minutes after I finished showing it off, it was gone. Someone had pickpocketed me during boarding. The phone was so new that I had yet to put a screen lock on or any other security feature. I am the idiot in this story.
