Cohen’s Testimony Today

This will be a day for the history books. Today is the day Trump’s former “fixer,” attorney Michael Cohen, testifies to correct statements he previously made under oath, lying on Trump’s behalf.

Michael Cohen has been the target of several attempts by Trump’s entourage to discredit him. He discredits himself in his opening statement, but goes on to say he is setting the record straight and he offers documents to substantiate today’s testimony.

“The last time I appeared before Congress, I came to protect Mr. Trump. Today, I’m here to tell the truth about Mr. Trump.” ~Michael Cohen

Cohen’s opening statement description of Donald Trump’s character—

“When I say conman, I’m talking about a man who declares himself brilliant but directed me to threaten his high school, his colleges, and the College Board to never release his grades or SAT scores.” ~Michael Cohen

Trump seems nervous.

More damning opening testimony:

“You need to know that Mr. Trump’s personal lawyers reviewed & edited my statement to Congress about the timing of the Moscow Tower negotiations before I gave it.

To be clear: Mr. Trump knew of and directed the Trump Moscow negotiations throughout the campaign and lied about it.” ~Michael Cohen

Incidentally, Cohen was disbarred yesterday by the Supreme Court. (Kavanaugh?) The timing of his disbarment demonstrates another attempt to discredit Cohen prior to his testimony. Cohen is going to prison regardless of his testimony today. It’s unlikely he intends to practice law again.

Another jab at Cohen, in the form of witness tampering, by a GOP congressman of questionable integrity. Matt Gaetz is now under investigation.

The following quote from Cohen’s opening statement that stands out:

“He was a presidential candidate who knew that Roger Stone was talking with Julian Assange about a WikiLeaks drop of Democratic National Committee emails.” ~ Michael Cohen

A damning revelation? Not really, but it is confirmation of what we suspected. Trump knew about the stolen e-mails days before WikiLeaks published them.

Cohen says in July of 2016, just before the Democratic National Convention, he was in the room when Trump took a call, on speakerphone, from Roger Stone. Stone said he had spoken to Julian Assange of Wikileaks. Assange told Stone that within a couple of days there would be a massive dump of damaging Hillary Clinton’s e-mails.

This is in direct conflict with what Donald Trump stated, in his written testimony to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, that Roger Stone did not tell him about WikiLeaks.

PERJURY IS AN IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE.

A $35,000 check signed by Trump on Aug. 1, 2017 (after he became president) will be displayed during Cohen’s testimony.

“An installment of hush money.”

Cohen has no incentive to lie. He is already going to prison. He has a plea deal that may reduce his jail time, but committing another crime, like lying to Congress again, would terminate the plea deal.

Donald Trump has good reason to lie, self preservation.

WikiLeaks was described as a foreign intelligence service, which means they were likely under surveillance for years.

Cohen reportedly taped every conversation he had with Trump. We should determine the veracity of that report today.
