The holidays are by definition
To afford specific recognition
By acknowledging a value or a skill.
We have: Mother’s, Father’s, Teachers Day
Ground hogs day— and by the way
With every single day assigned, it’s overkill.
As with little league baseball,
Awarding trophies freely to all
When the long drawn out season is at end,
Celebrating everyone and everyday
Renders no person and no holiday
Special— that’s the underlying message that we send.
