It’s been three weeks since the Senate Majority Leader last graced us with his presence.
According to a Kentucky law, if Senator McConnell were to die or vacate his seat for any reason, the governor would be required to call a special election rather than make an interim appointment.
If this ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ game continues until August 3, no election will be triggered.
The coverup:
GOP damage control appears to be in full swing. Republicans are claiming they spoke with him for twenty minutes about Iran, Ukraine, Maine, and the Trump Presidential Library.
That is curiously specific; and how many twenty-minute increments are we supposed to believe there are in a day?
My guess is that the twenty-minute phone calls will stop on August 3.

In 2016, he blocked President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, refusing to hold even a hearing, arguing that voters should decide in the upcoming election—despite it being a year away. Four years later, just two weeks before the 2020 election, he changed his position and hastened Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation.
- McConnell paved the way for Citizens United, enabling dark money to influence politicians through bribery.
- It was on Mitch McConnell’s urging that his party chose to acquit Donald Trump following his first impeachment. The Senate acquitted him on both articles of impeachment on February 5, 2020. Article I (Abuse of Power): Failed 48 to 52. Article II (Obstruction of Congress): Failed 47 to 53.
Just think, if they had indicted Trump, they would have removed him from office and permanently barred him from running. We would still have an East Wing!
