My Baggage

Work is work—that is profound, I know

Mine includes travel, but wherever I go

I think of my daughters, my son, and my dog

The list of my longings I could catalogue

Mexico, Deutschland, J’aime le Francais,

England, or a coast of the USA

This fall two of my three will go off to school

One east and one west—abandonment’s cruel

Travel serves a purpose, but would you believe

The sight of a suitcase leaves me quite bereaved
