Let the Buck Start With Buck

Christian-fascist GOP House Speaker of the hour, Mike Johnson, has voiced concern regarding his “razor-thin” majority.

Speaker Mike Johnson
Serves at the pleasure of
Donald Trump

*I’m about to quote myself; how self-important am I? My excuse- it’s easier to copy and paste than repeat what I wrote four days ago:

“The following Republican members of the House of Representatives have announced they will not seek reelection: Ken Buck, Mike Gallagher, Blaine Luetkemeyer, Debbie Lesko, Kay Granger, Patrick McHenry, Victoria Spartz, Brad Wenstrup. If only they would retire effective today, Democrats could get to work.”

Ha! He, the speaker who likens himself to Moses, received a distressing message on Tuesday, not presented to him on a stone tablet, nor parchment scroll, not even a high-grade paper with a letterhead of:

U.S. Representative Ken Buck (R-CO). 👇🏼

Thank you, Ken, for your service; exit stage left.

Nerrr, Speaker Johnson (enjoy that title while you can) heard the news via a voicemail, just 30-minutes before said Republican lawmaker Ken Buck announced to the public, he is leaving Congress “at the end of next week.”

Dreams really do come true! Someday my prince will come…

Should a special election, next month to replace disgraced con artist George Santos in New York, give that seat to the democratic candidate who is leading in the polls, the 218-214 majority would change to 217-215, subtract Ken Buck, and we have 216-215. Johnson could afford ONE more defection because a 216-216 tie kills a bill.

We want to forward democracy, not just fend off attacks. That said, do I hear an early departure from two other willing bodies listed among those committed to retirement? Going once, twice…

I feel congress is on a precipice, and the GOP is soon to meet destiny.

What distress this news would cause for Saint Speaker of the skeleton closet? His grip on the gavel is slipping. Current House minority leader, Hakeem (Thor in this scenario) Jeffries, hand extended, willing the gavel to find him.

If the count confirmed on my fingers and toes is correct, that would make democrats the majority.

The Honorable Hakeem Jeffries

Give that man the gavel!

Trash sometimes takes itself out.

Wait, there is more. Buck’s Colorado district is the one Lauren Boobert has her eyes on, realizing how unlikely her present constituents are to reelect her.

There is a small window of time that allows a special election to replace him. The cut-off is six months before a general election. For the Beetlejuice fan to run, she would need to resign her current position.

What will she do? She is not polling well in that district either. This is the point when I might make a joke about poll-dancing in her future, but this is a serious blog and I have standards.

  1. This may give the retiring ones a bit more leverage, since they can threaten to do a Buck. If only they would use the power for good… (not holding my hopes up, they’ve been dashed too often).

    1. I expect the worst at this point. But I still get disappointed.
I am enjoying Boebert’s melt down. “The “uni-party got Ken Buck to resign so they could rig the election against me.”
I’d love to see her go before the five year mark when she qualifies for pension and benefits at age 62.
