CPAC Weekend — Oh Joy

CPAC weekend has arrived, oh joy.

What is CPAC?

I sit at a cafe under an umbrella, my elbow rests on a small mosaic table that holds a cup of thick Turkish coffee, and a pack of filterless European cigarettes. Closing my eyes, head in hand, I bask in the warmth of the sun, inhaling deeply the salty breeze of the Aegean Sea, as it lifts my hair, cooling my neck. Steps away, white sand meets cerulean waves.

A silhouette with his back to the sun, my silent adoring man, approaches the table and reaches for my hand… screech.

Wrong.

It isn’t a sea it’s a C, as in “conservative” (ewe.) the “PAC” isn’t cigarettes, it’s an acronym for “Political Action Conference.”

CPAC is held at the National Harbor, Maryland, in the good old U.S. of A., not Santorini. Conservative Political Action Conference” is the largest meeting of the influential “conservatives” in the world,” and the festivities are this weekend.

The conservative gathering this year has shimmied farther right than usual. It is so far right that even Moscow Mitch McConnell was not invited, so conservative that former Vice President Mike Pence is said to be too afraid for his life to attend.

The weekend culminates with a speech by that former guy, celebrating him, “President Donald J. Trump” is the big finish. 3:40 pm on Sunday, February 28, 2021.

The golden calf arrives in time for the drunken orgy. I believe this story is in the book of Exodus.

Have these Conservative Evangelical Christians read the Bible?

“You shall not make gods of silver to be with me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.” Exodus 20:23

And what’s with the golden calf’s shorts?

Do Republicans read the constitution?

Speaking of the far-right, Qanon conspiracy theorists believe that on Thursday, March 4, that former guy will be inaugurated as President again. They believe Trump would arrive at the inauguration ceremony and carry out the long-awaited “storm,” ordering mass arrests and executions of satanic pedophiles and “deep state” figures working against him. 

Additionally, the same extremist groups who attacked the Capitol on January 6, are planning to return to the Capitol. Acting chief of the U.S. Capitol Police, Yogananda Pittman, has issued a warning regarding Biden’s upcoming first address to a joint session of Congress. She warns that extremists “want to blow up the Capitol” when Biden addresses Congress. The date of Biden’s address has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, certain members of the GOP, like Florida Senator Rick Scott, are complaining that the Capitol is still heavily guarded. They want the level of security lowered.

Curious.

This reminds me that certain events that took place on January 6 have yet to be publicly addressed:

• Some members of Congress are known to have given guided tours of the Capitol Building on January 5.
• Information from inside the Capitol was communicated on social media and via text message, disclosing the locations of members of Congress throughout the attack.
• The panic buttons were removed from the offices of some members of Congress.

• Insurrectionists had detailed maps of the Capitol Complex, maps not available to the public.

• Who planted the pipe bombs?

Thirty-five Capitol Police officers are currently under investigation and six have been suspended since the attack, but why haven’t complicit members of Congress been indicted?
