Ivy’s Envy

There was a girl named Ivy

Who was the youngest of the litter

She fought hard to get attention

From her parents and the sitter

She looked up to seven siblings

They were superlatively tall

The problem was they didn’t look down

She was invisible to all

She only wanted to be noticed

All she wished for was some height

Until one day her wish came true

She seemed to grow up over night

From this elevated perspective

Life had changed — and she was seen

By siblings sitters and parents

Treated differently than she’d been

She had never been given tasks before

When no one saw her there

Endless lists of chores plagued her…

Responsibility seemed unfair

Poor Ivy had envied everyone

So she would never have guessed

As bad as she thought her life was

She was actually quite blessed

The moral of the story is

Reconsider what you deplore

And be careful what you wish for

Life could be harder than before
