This is your life
You’ve clawed through it so far
Would you read and relive
How you acquired your scars
How it felt when you bled
A detailed description of pain
Wouldn’t you rather instead
Move on than remain
In the grips of the past
I know I would refrain
From dwelling on memories
That are hard to sustain
Chewed and swallowed once
Head held reasonably high
To endure it again
I could not comply
This day and tomorrow
Are where my energies lay
Yesterday consumed more time
Than I would justify
