Choose Kamala, Get on With It

I’m breathing.

I’m calm. I purchased a meditation cushion on Amazon a few weeks ago because I needed to ease this stress. Wearing my well-worn rose-colored Kamala t-shirt, I sat on that pillow yesterday, not sure what else to do with it, and I think I’m good now. Yup, I feel great.

Kama-La

George Clooney is still dead to me.

This is how I see the world, through gloom colored glasses. (Is gloom a color?) Enough high-profile democrats have embraced Kamala Harris that they may not eschew her for the top of the Democratic ticket, I think. Whew! That is a relief; so we can forget most of what I said in my third post yesterday.

Of dire consequence: the candidate must secure the nomination by receiving more than 50% of the 3,949 (1,976) Democratic convention delegates.

Trump has donated to Kamala… in the past.

The Democratic National Convention will be held on August 19, but that is not the deadline. Nope. Pourquoi? (I speak Level 1 French when I’m nervous.) Why is that not the deadline? Flocking Ohio, that’s why. The bellwether state (?), Ohio, has a ballot deadline of August 7. They have approved a law nullifying that early date, but it doesn’t take effect until September 1. DNC lawyers say the party could face legal challenged in Ohio if it cannot appoint a successor before August 7. The convention regulations committee has said it won’t set a date for the virtual roll call — which could take place over several days — before Aug. 1.

Democrats must have formalized details with a candidate who has earned 1,976 delegates before August 7, or they will have a legal battle, lawsuits by far-right groups like the Heritage Foundation. They have already threatened to dispute in swing states to keep anyone but Biden off the ballot. They justify that because voters elected Biden in the primary election. I have been shouting this into the wind since the debate.

My biggest fear is the Supreme Court. Yes, I’m still traumatized over the 2000 election when they, with their newest member Clarence Thomas, crowned the loser, George W Bush.

Further complicating matters, the DNC had planned to hold a virtual roll call to choose its nominee before August 1 to meet Ohio ballot eligibility rules. That was when Biden was the candidate.

August 7 deadline to earn 1,976 delegates and certify her name on the ballot. Siri tells me that is 16 days away.

I don’t mean to be dramatic, but…

“…the law’s delay,

The insolence of office, and the spurns

That patient merit of th’ unworthy takes,

When he himself might his quietus make

With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,

To grunt and sweat under a weary life,

But that the dread of something after death,

The undiscovered country, from whose bourn…” ~

William Shakespeare, Hamlet 😏

Excuse me, I’m speaking.” ~Kamala Harris

So, we can do this in a fortnight +2, or even 15 days just to show off. Am I right?

Last night, long before network news failed to mention it, the Democratic National Delegation from Texas’ 21st District chose to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris at the DNC. That is seven delegates right there. Today we only need only 1,969 more.

We can do this. Women alone make up half the electorate, and what sweet revenge it would be for a woman to beat Trump, who has waged war against us.

Kamala Harris just declared her candidacy for president and took over the Biden campaign’s $96 million war chest — now called “Harris For President”

LFG!

  1. Just when I thought there was no hope, she is the light at the end of the tunnel. Just what the US and all us onlookers need – a woman to stand up for the rights that the Republicans seem to be so set on destroying.
