“Why shouldn’t I vote for an independent if I like their stance on ____?”
Troll posing as a young American
The answer is in the example of an election spoiled by a third party, Ralph Nader. His 2000 presidential campaign altered the course of the decision. The pivotal battleground was Florida, where Governor Jeb Bush held considerable influence. Nader secured 97,421 ballots. In the razor-thin margin, George W. Bush claimed victory over Al Gore by just 537 votes, they said. The Supreme Court intervened, halting a manual recount and declaring George W. Bush, President. Thank Clarence Thomas for his SCOTUS vote.
The hand recount that took place later showed Al Gore won by 682 votes. By then had conceded.

If not for Ralph Nader’s candidacy, Al Gore would have won by numbers too high to dispute in several states. Nader appealed to liberal independent voters, just enough of them to change the outcome of the election. I don’t think Nader‘s intentions were nefarious. I think his ego got the best of him.
That is when our world tipped on its axis. Two wars and a climate crisis later, did we learn anything? It appears not.

President Biden faces a challenge as an increasing number of young people strongly opposing our support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas. The death toll among Palestinian civilians, numbering in the thousands, has led to blame directed at President Biden for these casualties.

with the guy who lit the match.
The onset of third-party propaganda is evident, with discontented young people being actively urged online to vote for alternative options. Bots and trolls are courting them, echoing the sentiment, “Remember, we have more than two choices.” Not really. Our system only works with two parties. In countries like France, a president requires 51% of the vote, leading to runoff elections between the top two contenders. In the U.S., historical trends show that third-party candidates siphon votes from Democrats, more than once resulting in the election of a less favorable candidate. This is not new.
The decision boils down to a choice between authoritarianism or democracy. Opting to “fight the system” by voting for an unlikely winner is throwing away your vote.
Spoilers are lining up for the 2024 presidential election:

Jill Stein (Yes she is doing it again.) Putin’s plant gave Trump the votes he needed to win in 2016. It turns out she knows Putin well.

Joe Manchin, West Virginia’s (debatable) Democratic U.S. Senator, who has proven his allegiance to the oil industry, Big Pharma, has announced he will not seek re-election… for the Senate. Fox News claims his decision was made because low poll numbers guarantee a loss. See yourself out, Jo.
But that’s not what we’re talking about here.
Mansion has been courted by a dark money group called “No Labels” who want him to run for President as a third party candidate. The group has been outed by members in congress who followed the money trail. Their goal is to put republicans back in power.
“No Labels has no plan, no path, no policy platform.. they don’t even have a candidate. What No Labels is… is a configuration made up of dark money that won’t disclose its donors”
Governor Wes Moore (D-MD)
Pro GOP billionaires are behind this party. If Manchin can’t win his own state he has no chance at the presidency. They know that. His purpose would be obvious, to leach votes from Democrats.

Endorsed by Steve Bannon.
The third spoiler, is RFK Jr. the most dangerous spoiler because he is polling highest. Like Manchin, he was also courted by “No Labels.”
RFK jr lies with conviction. His children have been vaccinated, but he is anti-VAX. He is a conspiracy theorist, an anti science guy. He quit the democratic party that would not have him, (the democratic one,) and is now declaring as an independent.

The idea of all three, a Jill Stein, Joe Manchin, and RFK jr, combo platter is scary considering what Trump has vowed to do if he wins.
If you vote to prove a point, you may end up like these young people in Russia, in hostage style videos reading a forced apology for voicing their opinions.

Chaos in the Senate:
The actions of three Senators have weakened our national security.
- Tommy Tuberville’s is blocking military promotions since February, creating 370 leadership vacancies so far. His excuse: he doesn’t like the military abortion policy.
- Rand Paul has been been blocking State Department nominees- 61 so far, including 38 ambassadorial nominees. He is demanding the administration turn over information about the origins of Covid. Okay, Rand. 🙄
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/07/15/politics/antony-blinken-state-department-nominees/index.html
- J.D Vance has been blocking DOJ appointments, accusing Merrick Garland of indicting Trump for the purpose of his political agenda.
What these Trump loyalist Senators are really doing is keeping the positions open for Trump, so he can fill vacancies with his mob.
This is not a drill. The stakes are high. Without unity in our vote, a Trump resurgence is a real possibility, and this might mark the end of future elections. Third party candidates are there on behalf of the GOP.

I’ve written many posts about the electoral college and will not repeat myself on that subject. My views remain unchanged.
I take a similar stance in asking Democrats to stand by their man in a post called Solidarity.
