“You’re floating along in a Shakespearean Arden paradise and expect to see nymphs and flute boys, then suddenly you’re struggling in a hot broiling sun of hell in dust and nettles and poison oak…just like life.” ~ Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums
The streets of Greenwich Village are filled with students…one of whom is my child. The fact that there are so many students, gives one a feeling of security…false as it may be. What New York is, as is every large city from Paris, to London, to Brussels, is a war zone. There is no security in a war zone.
Ahmad Khan Rahami was charged with attempted murder yesterday in connection with that bombing in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan that injured 29 people, as well as the bombing in Seaside Park New Jersey on that Saturday Morning.
This is disheartening for many reasons. That there is so much hate in the world tops the list. That this has become so typical an occurrence that many people aren’t even aware of the incident is just sad.
What are you going to do? You can’t let that entity determine the course of your life. You have to keep floating along.
