At the risk of sounding like a mom, (which I am), and at the risk of repeating myself, (which I probably am), I am going to share a belief I have. This belief holds the key to my happiness:
Life is a series of choices. You choose your friends. Friends have an effect on many other choices you make, so consider this choice long and hard. If you surround yourself with people who are better at life than you are, you will become better at life. If you surround yourself with negative people who live in darkness, you will see spend a lot of time in the dark. Surround yourself with people who you respect, and who you can learn from, and you will become someone with self respect.
You choose what kind of an education you get. The education you choose will determine which types of jobs you can choose from, and work is where you will spend most of the hours in your day, so consider carefully. A couple of extra years studying now could mean decades at a fulfilling career down the road. Education is an investment. You can continue to invest by being a life long learner, or you can choose to stagnate.
You decide what type of a person you will be. You can be kind, or not. You can play the victim, blaming others for everything that goes wrong in your life. However, if you don’t take responsibility for your problems you will never move beyond them. You can choose to hold onto anger and take it with you everywhere. You can let stress consume you, or you can just let it go. You can choose to laugh. Life is funny if you let it be. It’s a choice.
We are human and, as such, we make an occasional wrong choice. The great thing about this way of thinking is that if you are not completely satisfied with your choices, you can choose to change, because life is a series of choices.
I admit that there are a few things in life that you can not choose, but I choose not to focus on them, and I choose not to mention them. I choose to be happy. Why doesn’t everyone?__________________________________
