Big Pharma Bribes

Lina M. Khan, Chair of the Federal Trade Commission

“UnitedHealth Group and CVS Health have asked a federal judge to remove FTC Chair Lina Khan and the two Democratic FTC commissioners from the agency’s lawsuit against the country’s largest pharmacy benefit managers.”

What’s this lawsuit about? We know Big Pharma gives doctors kickbacks to prescribe their drugs, and they bribe politicians to ignore price gouging, but now, after President Biden’s efforts to lower prices on eleven drugs, (so far,) Big Pharma has drawn insurance companies into their web. I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am.

In this case, pharmaceutical companies bribed the insurance companies mentioned above to remove the drugs Biden negotiated low prices on from their approved drug lists. It’s no wonder Americans pay so much for medication.

U.S. taxpayers finance the research that pharmaceutical companies rely on to develop new drugs. In addition to direct financial support, the U.S. government also offers these companies huge tax breaks.

Pay it forward? Nope. The U.S. charged exorbitant prices for medications, especially when compared to other countries.

The FTC is on it. Fingers crossed.
