National Voter Registration Day

Today is National Voter Registration Day. I’m planning to celebrate by confirming my registration has not been purged at:

VOTE.GOV

With our system of electing a president, the electoral college, a few votes in a handful of districts in key states can flip an election. That’s how the loser of the popular vote, Trump, won in 2016.

VOTE.GOV is the direct government registration link, one stop shopping.

Every ballot counts. You’ve heard this before, but it’s true, if your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to discourage you from voting.
Like what? Republican governed states are purging democrats from voter rolls, polling stations will be closed on Election Day, making it a challenge to find out where you can cast your ballot and then get there. They’ll say the machines are broken, so the line to use the working voting machines will be so long people will give up and go home without voting. Trump appointed Postmaster Louis DeJoy to slow down the mail, hoping mail-in ballots wouldn’t be counted. He’s still in that position. Republicans have done all of this and more in recent elections.

What can you do? Go to VOTE.GOV and register to vote if you haven’t already. If you have, confirm that you are still registered. Check again. Vote early to avoid Election Day chaos. If you vote by mail, mail that ballot as soon as you get the chance, or drop it off in person. Urge friends and neighbors to vote early. If needed, offer rides to the polling station on Election Day.

Every vote matters. Harris may be up by 8 points in the polls, but on the electoral map, this race is tied.
