This may be the best August ever. A blue moon occurs every 30 months, and last night was it. If you missed it, August 30 offers a “Super blue moon,” less frequent, last seen in December 2009, and the next one won’t be until August 2032.

Meanwhile, on earth, we may keep watch for mooning MAGAs.

Their leader’s arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow at 4 pm eastern time. The same Magistrate Judge who accepted the grand jury indictment yesterday will oversee Trump’s court appearance, in person or via zoom. It is unlikely he’ll be detained pending trial, but we can always hope.

The case will then be turned over to Judge Tanya Chutkan, a 2014 appointee to DC federal court. She has been randomly assigned the Trump federal case in DC.

Of the over 1,100 arrests made so far, related to the 1/6 attack on the Capitol, 300 1/6 rioters have faced the same charge listed as #3 on Trump’s latest string of indictments: “obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, a charge Donald Trump will face tomorrow.”

Judge Chutkan, has been a vocal critic of the attack on the Capitol, and has applied some of the longest sentences for those convicted in 1/6 crimes.

Scott Macfarlan compiled the following list of quotes, by Judge Chutkan, during the sentencing phase for some of those convicted in the 1/6 Capitol attack:

• July 13, 2023, “This was no exercise of 1st amendment rights. It was a violent attempt to overthrow the government”
• July 2022, Chutkan TWICE went above prosecutors’ recommended sentence in Jan 6 cases (A true rarity in the 1,000+ Jan 6 cases)
• Sept 2022, “The ‘true patriots’ are the Capitol employees… including those who slipped in their own blood seeking cover on January 6”
• Aug 2022, After riot videos were shown in her courtroom she commented on how “horrifying the events that day were … every single time I watch, I’m struck by how those outnumbered law enforcement officers.. were trying to stay alive”
• Aug 2022 Capitol, “It’s frankly so ironic that the crowd was chanting “USA” “It’s contrary to every principle this country is supposed to stand for”
• Oct 2022, “They were mad that their guy lost. I see the video tape… the flags.. the people who mobbed that Capitol were there in fealty and loyalty to one man. Not the Constitution”
• Oct 2022, “The Senate Chamber is sacrosanct”

Those are the words of a Judge not appointed by Trump, whose luck, it seems, has run it’s course. Judge Chutkan is no Aileen Cannon. Who?

Cannon is a Trump appointed judge overseeing his theft of secret documents case in Florida.

The timing of Trump’s DC indictments may be Jack Smith’s response to Judge Cannon’s unnecessary and dangerous delays in Trump’s espionage proceedings in Florida. She has scheduled that trial date May 2014.

Jack Smith has filed a notice with Judge Cannon arguing that his team will ensure there are no conflicts in scheduling with new charges filed against Trump in DC, and the Florida case she presides over. He asks that she not “disturb” the schedule causing further delay proceedings in Florida further.
