Football matters to me for two reasons. It gives my mind a place to rest, and it is an activity my 93-year-old mom and I can enjoy together. (I don’t do puzzles.)
She almost never realizes we’re watching a replay and shouts at the television again:
“Run! Run! Run! Why do they keep making the same mistakes?”
Fuck if I know. “I don’t know, mom.”
My mother lives with me and depends on me for everything. Unless there is a football game on television, she is bored and expects me to fix that. I hold my tongue and blink a lot. I’m not a saint. She makes me crazy. Unlike professional caregivers, I don’t get weekends off or vacations. I’m not saying anything else on that subject, except there is only one game left, and then what?

I guess I’ll worry about that after the Super Bowl.
I have my favorite teams, and Mum likes whichever team is on offense. Well, I must say, I’m disappointed. My short list of favorites comprises the Bills, Bengals, Broncos, and Buccaneers… oh, and da Bears, because I hail from that city. Other than the requisite hometown loyalty, my choices are all about the quarterback, or might it be alliteration? It’s the QB… although I love the Eagles, my thumbs refused to add them to my list. Hmm…
With my preferred teams out of the competition, I chose new favorites; currently, we’re down to two teams that weren’t on my original list.
I need to choose a team to enjoy the game. How do I decide? How do I decide? Politics.

Robert Kraft, who owns the New England Patriots, is a supporter and donor of Trump. He clearly prioritizes his tax cut over democracy. (He is not affiliated with Kraft Foods.)

Jody Allen, owner of the Seattle Seahawks, is a philanthropist who supports education, the arts, and (the s word) science.

Seahawks’ quarterback, Sam Darnold!
I will be cheering for the statistical underdogs, the Seattle Seahawks, to win the Super Bowl.
In other news:

I am wearing a mask.
Question: Why?
- To visit a new baby.
- I look better with it on.
Answer: Yes.
This month I became a mom’s mom. My (adult) oldest baby had a baby, and I don’t like using G-words when they pertain to me. What kind of world are we leaving for our kid’s kids?
Okay people, make today better than yesterday, or as good, or just get through it however you can. We’ll talk soon.
Your hair looks great. I let mine grow, too.
Thank you! OMG, that took forever- you know this. I hid under a thick headband then eventually cut it all off. I’m one $9 box of color away from undoing all that work. (I won’t.)
Congratulations! I’m a grandma too. Best promotion ever!!
Thank you! I forgot this kind of joy- holding a baby. ☺️
There are no words for the feeling of holding your first grandbaby 🥰
