Cawthorn Them All

You may remember former Representative Madison Cawthorn. He spoke on stage before Trump declared war on the Capitol, on 1/6. Cawthorn was one of many who warmed up the crowd.

What happened to Cawthorn’s political career? In March 2022, he revealed publicly that orgies and drug parties were a normal occurrence with members of Congress. He said they invited him to join the festivities almost as soon as he was sworn in.

I don’t think the politicians and newspapers of the 1870s era, who nicknamed the Republican Party the “Grand Old Party” (GOP), had Sodom and Gomorrah style debauchery in mind. Not that kind of party, dummies.

Any who, by speaking the unspeakable, Cawthorn unknowingly kicked a hornet’s nest. Retaliation was swift, and the culmination was the release of photos of Cawthorn wearing women’s lingerie, and an X-rated video of Cawthorn romping in bed with his screaming (male) “cousin,” / assistant. Cawthorn was not re-elected. I specify his partner was male only because, like most republicans, Cawthorn was anti-LGBTQ.

Now, Cawthorn’s name has shifted in the American political vernacular. It can be used as a noun or an adjective.

Matt Gaetz is “getting Cawthorned.”

What that means is the party Gaetz betrayed by having Kevin McCarthy removed from his role as Speaker of the House is going after him. Once silent, they are speaking out on allegations of sex-trafficking, and paying teenagers for sex. McCarthy had announced the possibility of having Gaetz expelled for misconduct, only after Gaetz threatened to initiate the vote to dethrone him. It was a game of chicken. Gaetz won, but it’s not over.

I’ve wondered out loud what happened with the investigation into Gaetz allegedly trafficking teen girls. I thought he was supposed to be indicted. He paid these teenagers with Venmo! There are receipts. Now I know what transpired.

Republicans kept the crimes as insurance to control Gaetz. He went rogue, initiating a vote against McCarthy, so Republicans, once silent, are talking. They say he showed colleagues photos and videos on the floor of Congress, of females he had sex with. He bragged about having sex with teenagers. The only new information I’ve heard is that he used Viagra so he “could go all night.”

Gaetz, who two days ago seemed to have full control of the Republicans in the House, is being Cawthorned.

Showing naked photos and bragging about underage girls “before he was married we thought, that’s reasonable.” (Gaetz allegedly eloped in August of 2021.) Senator Markwayne Mullin can be heard speaking those words and more, in the attached interview, via Twitter. It says as much about Mullin as it does about Gaetz. The qualifiers he uses make him look equally vile.

Do these politicians realize how withholding this information for years but releasing it now, as revenge, makes them look bad, too? His illegal and unethical predilections were fine until he angered them.

Cawthorn them all.
