Senator Dianne Feinstein has left the world a better place, or she would have had ‘that other guy’ Donald Trump kept Putin out of our government.
She fought for women’s rights, promoting the ‘Violence Against Women Act’, which Trump allowed to expire. Her leadership in countering the work of gun lobbyists and her efforts to end torture used to garner confessions deserve mention.

No sarcasm intended. Timeless style is worthy of praise. Forgive me for my judgment on another matter, timeless employment. I have been a fan of Senator Feinstein as I was of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ginsberg died at age 87 when she was the oldest Supreme Court Justice. Now attack me if you will because I am not afraid to say that both great ladies made the same mistake. They held on to their jobs for too long, causing immeasurable damage that resulted in the reversal of many of their biggest achievements on women’s causes.
Why didn’t they retire? Why? They had the two things that keep most Americans working far longer than they’d like: enough money to maintain their lifestyle, and healthcare. Members of Congress only need to work five years to get a pension and healthcare for life.
Retiring from their positions would not have forced them to end their public service. Their experience could have been put to use in other capacities to benefit the same causes they spearheaded.
Feinstein was 90 and her staff had concerns she had lost her mental acuity. Her health declined after her last reelection. She was out sick for most of the last two years, still refusing to retire. Her absence prevented President Biden from appointing judges. For all the good she did in her lifetime, I will remember her choice not to end her career, despite the damage that selfish decision caused.
Yes, I know I’m being disrespectful. Likewise, I shouldn’t blame the great former Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg for not having retired when she could still be replaced by a Democratic POTUS. I am bitter on behalf of the majority of Americans who cannot afford to retire.
Feinstein passes her “oldest member of Congress” baton to 89-year-old Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, a jackass from day one.
