A Sisyphean Companion

I met my friend for the first time when I was in high school. Initially she was an acquaintance of whom I was indifferent, whose company I suffered strictly out of necessity. I was so indifferent to her in fact, that when we met many years later I wasn’t sure if I had ever had the pleasure.

Today she is my constant companion. She understands me completely as I do her. I take my comfort in her thoughts and words, and I suffer her disappointments time and time again. She has changed my life for better, and for worse, and may have ruined me for love. Sadly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ernest Hemingway said “There is no friend as loyal as a book.”

I have many loyal friends, however my most loyal friend is Jane Austen.
