Who Will Be VP?

We have 93 days left until the 2024 Presidential Election. August 05 marks the end of the DNC’s virtual roll-call, when Kamala will be officially named as the candidate.

On August 07, all candidates must be chosen as per Ohio rules. That means Harris must decide before that. Also, worth noting, we know Trump has buyer’s remorse, so I’m sure he’s thinking about this. He cannot dump Vance after the 7th… Will he or won’t he?

Iceberg lettuce can last 12 days.
The above is dated 07/23.
Vance has outlasted the lettuce!

My crystal ball and common sense tell me Kamala will announce her Vice President on Tuesday, August 6, unless she does it as I hit the publish button on this post. Who will she choose?

Roy Cooper and Gretchen whitmer

Her short list is shorter since North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper bowed out, as did Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer.

There was news that Harris’ campaign asked donors to make their contributions now because of a technicality that they can’t donate when a sitting governor is on the ticket.

Senator Mark Kelly

This implies she will not choose Arizona (astronaut) Senator Mark Kelly. The choice to pass on him can also be attributed to the democrat’s desperation to hold on to the Senate majority. Arizona is not an easy win for the Dems, so Kelly is needed there. No announcement has been made that Kelly is no longer under consideration, he may well be her choice. This is just my conjecture.

Let’s see who is left:

Andy Beshear

Governor Andy Beshear, 46, of Kentucky, isn’t a staunch enough champion of reproductive rights, which we require. For that reason, I’d eliminate him. But that’s me. He could potentially draw in rural voters.

Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro 51 is the most popular guess. He makes sense from a ‘we need this swing state’ perspective. He isn’t my first choice, but like I said, these are all stellar candidates.

Pete

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg would be spectacular. He’s the youngest prospect at 42—his many appearances on Fox News have showcased his remarkable ability to get the message out on that propaganda platform sets him apart. Did I mention his age?

J.B. Pritzker

J.B. Pritzker, 59… just no. He’s the best Governor Illinois has had, ever. Considering four of the last ten Illinois governors have been convicted for corruption, three of whom did time, they must leave Pritzker in Illinois.

Okay, what did I miss? Oh!

Tim Walz

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, 60. He is very charismatic, and I believe he coined the phrase that has gotten under the skin of Donald Trump, “they’re weird.” I approve.

Kamala Harris has my permission to choose anyone, but my favorites are Buttigieg and Walz. Now I feel rushed to publish because I don’t want the announcement being made while I’m spellchecking.

☝🏼And there is this news. 🤔

They’re all great choices; she can’t go wrong. What do you think?

  1. JD isn’t going anywhere. Donnie Jr picked this loser for his dad and remember, he wants veto power over all the other selections Trump makes…you know, if he was he to get elected again. Fingers crossed, that doesn’t happen. Amazing to me that the GOP is worried after Trump’s latest fiasco, but his followers think he did great. Just ask JD.

    1. I didn’t know junior was part of the decision. This is like a bad movie with too many plot twists.
I thought Trump wouldn’t get rid of Vance because he didn’t want to negate his plans to challenge Kamala’s name being on the ballot after Biden was elected. If he changed VPs after being awarded delegates with Vance as part of the ticket that might cancel his argument.
This is going to be a court battle even if Kamala wins by a landslide. I hope Biden and the DOJ are ready.

      1. You have to wonder how many times he can cry ‘rigged election.’ I think Biden will be happy to get the heck out of there and not have to deal with all this nonsense. Kamala is a strong woman. She will take no BS from Trump.

  2. Howdy Lydia!

All of that is well reasoned, and I agree. In the punditing universe of pundits, Shapiro was pretty quick out of the gate with, biggest EC swing state, most popular, can really take it to Trump, and he’s handsome. Never overlook the handsome factor. Now, I sense that folks have cooled a bit on him given the whole Israel-Palestinian thing.

Walz would be a solid choice because he looks old. They are only about a year apart in age, but he looks much more paternal. That would help balance out doubts about her youthful appearance equating to inexperience in the minds of voters. Appearance and assumptions based on appearance matter. Kelly, also, has this looks old, but not too old, vibe going for him.

Bonus points for Walz, an old geography teacher.

Buttigieg is in many ways the best choice. He’s young. He’s very dynamic. He’s well known. He take take it to the GOP.

The one factor that we cannot utilize is the gets-along-with factor. She knows Buttigieg and Shapiro pretty well. I don’t know how well she knows Kelly and Walz.

No matter our doubts, reservations, or personal favorites, whoever she picks has to have our unreserved support. We need everything we can throw at the race to win. In fighting and bad mouthing are not going to help. Save it for the Festivus Airing of Grievances.

    Huzzah!
