Super Bowl Sunday, 2024

I don’t know who to credit, but good job!

Taylor Swift’s boyfriend is playing at an usher contest tonight, and I love it, but some people don’t. (Hater’s gonna hate.) Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift look happy, so what’s the anger about? Is it politics (she’s a vocal liberal) or misogyny (she’s a successful woman)? Whichever excuse, you parents of daughters who are upset by the 20 to 40 seconds she will be on camera should be conscious of the message you’re sending. Your words, if they insult Swift for simply existing, will affect your children, boys, and girls. (You need to calm down.) She’s a self-made billionaire, talented woman, philanthropic, and she’s an excellent role model.

The haters are the same people who “stopped watching football when Colin Kaepernick took a knee.” 🤔 Why did you come back?

Trump, just one more man claiming responsiblity for Taylor Swift’s success.

Insecurity is the root of this Swift hatred, if you ask me. And speaking of insecure men, Donald Trump, like Kanye has done, is taking credit for Taylor Swift’s success. Both misogynistic narcissists can think what they want. They’re wrong.

I’m excited about watching a good game. I like both teams, (Go Chiefs!) but I admit I’m here for halftime and the commercials as much as the football.

Senator Nancy Pelosi and her husband have arrived at the stadium, and California Governor Gavin Newsom is there as well. (Go SFO!)

I’ve noticed the “Jesus Gets Us” ads again this year during the playoffs.

Do you wonder who is pushing Jesus during the Super Bowl?

“Jesus’s Gets Us”

There were two Super Bowl commercials for Jesus. “He gets us.” Despite the positive message in these ads, I wonder what the reaction would have been if Muhammad had been the religious figure named.

What was the goal of these ads?

Damage control. Christianity has become associated with hate groups. The purpose of the ads was to improve public perception.

Who was behind the ads?

A Google search led me to “Servant Foundation.” It’s a Kansas-based non-profit that has donated more than $50 million to the “Alliance Defending Freedom,” a non-profit known for fighting abortion rights and non-discrimination laws. The ADF is listed as an anti-LGBTQ hate group, supporting criminalizing homosexuality and imprisoning LGBTQ individuals for engaging in consensual sex. Hobby Lobby founder and ADF member, billionaire David Green, was one of the biggest donors who funded the ads. Hobby Lobby uses religious objections to exclude birth control from health insurance coverage for their more 60 million workers.

Realizing where the financing came from invalidates any warm fuzzys the ad granted Christianity. The message of love, acceptance and anti-violence was beautiful, but the messenger was misrepresenting himself. Organized religion is not what it claims to be. The man taints everything.
