Trump and Barr Eliminate the Need for a Judicial Branch of Government

“At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer. If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide.” ~Abraham Lincoln

The authors of our nearly finished democracy, this GOP, will remain in power by any means possible. They’ll pit conservatives, moderates, and liberals against each other. Disinformation works; we have all heard people repeat the ridiculous. Trump’s State of the Union Address was nothing but blatant lies from beginning to end. Every day is Opposite Day. Voter disenfranchisement, like mass registration purges, and hacking are guaranteed when the Grand Old white man Party refuses to secure our elections.

Iowa used an untested phone app earlier this month to tally caucus results; it failed. Next week’s Nevada Caucus had planned to use an app as well, but because of what happened in Iowa they now may use a “tool,” which is different because it’s an iPad app. What is wrong with paper and pens? Why does our entire voting system have to be so complicated? Why can’t we just vote and let the winner win?

Waiting for an unsecured election in November before we take action is dangerous for several reasons; I’ll just name two:

  • We can not expect to beat the cheaters.
  • It will take generations to correct the profound damage Trump exacts daily.

This week Trump tweeted a complaint. His Attorney General Barr addressed the complaint by intervening in the sentencing of Roger Stone. Four prosecutors who had recommended the sentence that Barr overrode stepped down in response and Trump tweeted an attaboy to Barr for his service.

One of our three branches of government lost power the day the Senate dismissed Trump’s obstruction of Congress. Apparently, now Trump is taking over the judicial branch, deciding the sentence Roger Stone will receive. That eliminates the need for the second branch of government, giving Trump a full dictatorship.

We must give thanks to Republican Senators like Susan Collins, who is very disappointed and concerned because she was sure he had learned a “pretty big lesson.”

Senate Democrats are calling on Barr to resign or face impeachment after Trump confirmed that he intervened in Roger Stone’s case. He won’t, but he has agreed to appear before the Judiciary Committee on March 31, 2010. That is six weeks from now. I’ll bet my lunch money that we’ll wait six weeks and then he’ll decline the invitation. We’ve been down this road before, and we don’t have time to go on another pointless stroll.

Maybe I’m wrong and he will show up. Will it matter? He appeared before a Senate hearing nine months ago to answer for his obstruction of the Mueller report. It seems he lied under oath.

Any citizen who commits felonious acts, like perjury and obstruction, would spend years incarcerated. For Bill Barr and all of this administration, those crimes are atrophied arms of the law. More so since the Senate’s acquittal.

“I’m trying grapple with the word suggest…”

Yovanovich, Vindman, Yates, and the others who testified in the impeachment inquiry seem to be the only brave public servants left. Are we really out of viable options? Did the bad guys win?

  1. people are comfortable and complacent. Everything is plentiful in America. When resources dry up, rationing starts, people of means go hungry, shelter becomes more limited, cold sets in… people might begin to realize what they gave away to the con men. Who knows. We definitely aren’t living in the time of “the greatest generation”. sacrifice and sharing are foreign concepts today.

  2. Unfortunately a mafia is now in charge of the richest and largest democracy on this planet. Barr is a complete disgrace and his actions an insult to his high office. Congress now seemd powerless to hold this President in check given a Republican Senate that kow tows to all Trump’s actions.
