Trump’s attorneys have stopped arguing his innocence. The argument now is – so what. His attorney, Cipollone after Bolton places him ‘in the loop’ on Ukraine, has been implicated – so what. What are you going to do about it?
Some GOP Senators said it’s not impeachable:
“I worked with other senators to make sure that we have the right to ask for more documents and witnesses, but there is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the U.S. Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense.” ~Lamar Alexander
Some GOP Senators said it is impeachable, but not worth removing Trump:
“Just because actions meet a standard of impeachment does not mean it is in the best interest of the country to remove a President from office.” ~Marco Rubio
Not according to the oath you swore, to be to do impartial justice.
The House proved its case, you are obligated to find him guilty. It’s not your right to act on personal beliefs.
Some GOP Senators said no comment:
“No comment.” ~didn’t catch their names
One GOP Senator had permission to vote with the Democrats because Moscow Mitch knew her vote wouldn’t matter, and that it would help her abysmal poll numbers, maybe saving her November reelection bid:
“Blah, blah, blah.” ~Susan Collins
Blame us for believing this one, fooled again by her tag team act of confliction, played with Susan Collins:
“I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.”~Lisa Murkowski
A Constitutional law expert testified before the House Judiciary Committee during the impeachment hearing that this is monumental:
“If what we’re talking about is not impeachable, nothing is impeachable. This is precisely the misconduct that the framers created a Constitution including impeachment to protect against.”~Constitutional Law Expert, Michael Gerhart
By not checking Trump, which is their job, this GOP Senate, of traitors to our democracy, have diminished their own power, and the function of all of Congress, as a co-equal branch of government.
They’ve given Trump permission to continue seeking foreign assistance for his political aspirations, and by doing so, cleared the way for themselves to follow suit.
They have okayed Trump’s use of tax dollars for his own interests. They’ve undermined our government entirely.
This is worse than Attorney General Bill Barr’s obfuscation of the Mueller report.
A dictator was born yesterday.
Their hollow arguments have given a demagogue, who has the nuclear codes, absolute authority to continue running his criminal enterprise, while he destroying the U.S. on Putin’s behalf. He’ll never cede power. His behavior has been normalized.
If House Speaker Pelosi’s plan all along, as I’ve heard the overly optimistic claim, was to allow Republican Senators to expose their blind support for a criminal president, and as such, divulge their own corruption, it worked.
However, the GOP vote has opened us up to more attacks, which is the icing on Moscow Mitch’s cake of refusal to allow any of the election security bills presented to him by the House to come up for a vote.
The only way we have a chance to overcome election interference is to rally together to vote every one of these Senators out of office. Everyone must vote.
