An Ode to Himself on 4 July

Well, we can’t blame Betsy Devos for this one; she was not Secretary of Education when I was in school. I am a product of the inept Chicago public school system of yore. Twas a bit subpar when compared to other city schools in the U.S. Their biggest crime was a longterm failed effort to instill the pride that comes with a clear understanding of one’s history.

I was never taught about the following:

“Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHendry, under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant.” ~Tangerine Man

Who knew?

The Revolutionary Army soldiers “took over airports” in 1775, back in the day when you could still get a hot meal on a short flight in coach— sigh.

The Revolutionary War of 1776, and the War of 1812, at Fort McHenry (“McHendry”)— have always been a big bowl of chopped nuts in my mind. Speaking of nuts, I remember when the airlines gave passengers peanuts and a whole can of coke.

Now I get it.

God was truly unfair to our Mango Massiah, to inflict such a torrential storm on Washington, D.C., the likes of which has nare been seen, since the forces of Rome during the great flood where two by two animals marched for 40 days and 40 nights across the Panama Canal, before pirate clowns sank them.

Unfortunately for our tangerine tyrant, few witnessed his clarifying ramblings of 4 July 2019.
