Ignoble Pie

When I was young I knew so much
About how the world would be
I imagined my adult life
No one would control me
Today I see the world for what it is
It’s not what I’d expended
Though not governed by anyone
I’m controlled by the life I have perfected
I knew I’d be an ideal parent
Because I recognized mistakes
My parents made each day with me
But I didn’t see their heartaches
So here I sit–hard lesson learned
That no matter how I try
Life’s far from fair, I’m not perfect
And I eat ignoble pie
