I should try to live
My life with some flair
I should write a book
I should cut my hair
I need to get out
I should socialize
I should leave my house
Because, I surmise
Time, it is fleeting
And I’m getting old
You only live once—
Or so I’ve been told
The problem I have
Is that there’s no time
To do what I want
And I’m past my prime
It seems as if most
Everything I do
Is for my children—
And for the dogs too
My list of “should do’s”
And places to see
It only gets longer
Don’t disregard me
For I profess that
It won’t be too long
Kids off to college
And I on my own
That’s when I will do
The things that I plan
Have a pedicure
Perhaps date a man
Please check in on me
In another year
I’ll be quite selfish
Subsisting with flair
