A Dogs Life

My phone… what a guy. Siri (I call him Colin), on my phone is a British man, (check your settings), and he knows what I need in the morning. He knows that I need one hour to ready myself to leave the house for work. Why so long?

First, the dogs have needs. Upon rising I grab the little one, and the big one follows, loping down the stairs and out the door to do their business. Meanwhile, after taking care of my own needs, I let the dogs back in the house. They skip and hop as if on springs along side me as I head toward the kitchen cabinet where I grab two wheat free treats, because my dogs are fancy- they don’t eat gluten, also because in their warped spoiled doggie world, they are rewarded for going outside. Did I mention getting a treat for myself when I took care of my business? I didn’t? That’s because I don’t get a treat for doing my business. A dogs life indeed.

I grind and brew- coffee,
Blend and chop- a smoothie,
Scoop and pack-lunch,
Spritz and iron- my shirt,
Grab torture devise off line- support hose.

I hit the shower, the water as hot as I can stand. This is my time of day to reflect… My thought bubble today-
‘Who loses one shoe? How do you loose one shoe? Why can’t I replace it with just one shoe? It was practically new, and I don’t have the money, and even if I did, I don’t want to buy a shoe that I already have. Where oh where is my left shoe? Is it lamenting the loss of its partner, and my foot?’

I’m fully dried, clothed, and as groomed as my finances will allow. Coffee mug in hand, I thoroughly enjoy my 40 minute drive to work because, as always I’m listening to an audio book. This week it’s “Dark Places” by Gillian Flynn. I listened to her other two books prior to this, and have to wonder what Gillian Flynn’s story is, because these books are messed up- entertaining, but disturbing- well written, but Krazy with a K.

My destination is ahead of me, and the day is set in motion.

Blushing, the roseate sky bursts with color
as the sun rises on my left.

Today’s goal: laugh more than yesterday.

      1. That intrigues me! I work at a bookstore and both Dark Places and Sharp Objects are immensely popular at my job. I must check them out.

  1. All fur babies deserve to be spoiled. Your post in response to the prompt was fresh and original. While some people may think the transition of your thoughts does not make for good writing I love how natural they feel. I can feel my own thoughts taking these dips and turns as I get ready for work in the morning. Thoughts are not linear so why should our writing always be.
